Hivos and ARTICLE 19 are currently seeking proposals for its global programme on Open Contracting Data that builds the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), media, entrepreneurs or social-start-ups in analyzing public contracting data,

for lobby and advocacy purposes.

Open Contracting Data programme stresses need for citizen engagement

Hivos believes that all women and girls should have control over their lives and be able to actively participate in social, political and economic spheres, so we work tirelessly with various human rights instruments in support of communities’ and countries’ efforts towards gender equality.

The Shelter Me project is a unique initiative in the Gulf region, in which Migrant-Rights.org and Hivos collaborate to improve the employment relationship between employers and their domestic workers. Part of our approach is to work with international businesses to develop a Code of Conduct to support and guide their staff in developing a healthy and professional relationship with their domestic workers.

Trauma Healing Module

Healing from the trauma of sexual violence is not easy, especially when it stays with one for years. The healing efforts are done mainly by the individual, who in most cases needs help from others. For this reason, a manual for counselors helping sexual violence survivors in Timor Leste has been written by Theresia Sri Endras Iswarini, Manuela Leong Pereira, Johana Paula Shinta Dewi, and Dalia Maria das Regras, with the support of Hivos Southeast Asia.

MEMORIA - TANAH INGATAN

MEMORIA is a 35 minutes-long short film based on a true story in Timor Leste directed by Kamila Andini and produced by Hivos Southeast Asia and Treewater.  Most of the actors are non-professionals and also survivors of Gender-Based Violence in Timor Leste, such as sexual violence during the 1975-1999 conflict with Indonesia and domestic violence.

Before COP22, Hivos stated that this year’s Climate Conference needed to integrate the discussion on SDG7 (Energy Access for All) with countries’ climate commitments and climate finance.

It is with relief that Hivos learned that professor Vitit Muntarbhorn, the first UN Independent Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI), can continue to fulfill his task.

The position of Independent Expert on SOGI was created earlier this year by the UN Human Rights Council. Mr. Muntarbhorn’s mandate is to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people worldwide and to investigate the violence and discrimination against them.

Did you know that 60 percent of the people in the world throw out perfectly good food because of its expiry date or because they no longer want to consume it? According to data from the Government of Jakarta, each citizen wastes 0,5 kg of food a day, which means Jakarta produces approximately 7500 tonnes of food waste every single day.

Just days before the Paris Agreement comes into force, developed countries, led by Australia and the United Kingdom, have delivered a Climate Finance Roadmap to meet the collective goal of mobilising 100 billion USD a year for developing countries by 2020 to tackle climate change.
