Hivos believes that creative and critical art have the power to question hegemonic structures in society, to create alternative narratives, imagine new realities, and bring about progressive social change. Built upon those beliefs, Hivos Southeast Asia with Nesta and British Council are collaborating to launch a program called Creative Hub Academy in Indonesia. This academy is a transformational learning programme and fellowship for pioneer or leaders of “Creative Hubs” (community, collective, co-working space, organization or makers-space) that have been working for a year or more in their hub, and have a mission to create impactful changes for society through creative, digital initiative, and social innovation. Through series of activities in Creative Hubs Academy, the leaders of the Hub are expected to learn and share their experiences.
There are three core activities of this programme. The first activity is a capacity building workshop where leaders of the Hub will receive materials, network with other Hub Leaders, and share solution of the challenges they have been facing with the facilitators and guest speakers. The second activity is Learning in Action, where leaders of the Hub will receive fellowship to put their plan—result of the learning process at the workshop—to action. Through this phase, a number of mentors and facilitators will constantly guide the leaders of the Hub. In the last activity, the leaders of the Hub will be invited back to participate in a Coaching Retreat where they will reflect the whole process of learning.
