Hivos Southeast Asia at Open Government Partnership Global Summit 2019

May 24, 2019

Open Government Partnership Global Summit 2019 is coming. Governments at the national and local level, civil society organizations, and academics from around the world will attend the global meeting on May 29-31, 2019 in Ottawa, Canada to share knowledge and experience in promoting a more open and accountable government.

As part of global civil society, Hivos particularly the Open Contracting program team from around the world will be participating in several events in the Summit, including the South East Asia team. We also invite our partners from Indonesia and the Philippines to join the global conference and share their stories, opportunities, challenges, and various achievements in realizing good governance through the implementation of open contracting initiatives.

Our partners that will be joining us in the global conference are Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia, PATTIRO Semarang, Bojonegoro Institute, Alliance of Independent Journalist (AJI) Jakarta, Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, Bantay Kita, European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, dan Layertech Innovations Lab.

We and our partners will use this momentum not only to share best practice and learn from others but also to promote the wider adoption of open contracting initiative. We believe that open contracting would help the government to implement programs that meet the needs of citizens, including vulnerable groups. Through this process, the government will find it easier to alleviate poverty in its area, improve the quality of education and health, achieve gender equality, and ensure public involvement, especially vulnerable groups in the development process.

In addition, through this conference, we hope to inspire the governments in the region to work together and establish a stronger partnership to create a more inclusive and participatory development.
