Every year, the Dutch ministry of Foreign Affairs awards the Human Rights Tulip to a human rights defender who promotes and supports human rights in innovative ways.
The nomination round yielded almost 160 nominees from more than 50 countries. Out of these 160, 30 candidates went on to the public online voting round for the Human Rights Tulip 2014, and voting is currently underway. We encourage everyone to go to www.humanrightstulip.nl where you can vote for a candidate until Friday, October 10.
Please invite people within your networks not only to vote, but to support their favourite candidate as well. For this purpose, the foreign ministry has developed a toolbox with a number of campaign tools you can use online, such as digital banners, posters and a promotion video. It also contains background information on the Human Rights Tulip. You can download the toolbox from http://www.podium.nl/download.php?id=1411742092.
The Dutch foreign ministry is promoting the voting campaign on Twitter: @minbuza (Dutch) and @MinBuza_news (English).
The award will be presented to the winner in The Hague on December 9 by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs. The winner gains global recognition for his/her important and innovative work. In addition, the winner will receive support worth €100.000 to further develop and scale up their innovation.
