To contribute to economic prosperity and poverty reduction in Indonesia by promoting a switch to sustainable consumption and production of green, healthy, fair and local food by consumers and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The current food system has tremendous negative impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem resilience and human health. Instant, processed food and chemical-filled imported produce are rapidly replacing and undermining traditional food systems and threatening the health of current and future generations. World Wildlife Fund surveys show that 90 percent of the Indonesian population is aware that they consume non-environmentally-friendly products. By promoting fair trade agricultural products, we have the opportunity to both strengthen the position of MSMEs and smallholder farmers and to help them contribute to healthy diets for consumers while preserving biodiversity.
Switch plans to use methods including: information sharing; raising civil society awareness and engagement; training and education; promotion of resource efficiency, and cleaner supply chains using the lifecycle approach. The project will also set up multi-stakeholder platforms to create a more favorable policy environment and broad commitment to more sustainable and equitable food systems in Indonesia. The project is in synergy with the Hivos-IIED Sustainable Diets for All program, and WWF Indonesia’s campaigns, advocacy and education initiatives on sustainable production and consumption
